‘Category R Superstar’ Edge and Olympic Medalist Kurt Angle sat down to speak on ‘The Kurt Angle Show’ where they praised the career of the legendary Rey Mysterio.
Edge doesn’t think Rey Mysterio gets the credit he deserves
Edge said he does not feel that Rey has received all the honors or credits he deserves for revolutionizing the industry by showing that young and short wrestlers can rise to the top of WWE and succeed at the top of the card..
Rey Mysterio receives credit, but it is still not the credit he deserves; it really isn’t. I think it is due to the fact that it has been so constant for so long, and it is not appreciated in all its glory … I do not know if it will be fully appreciated until it retires, I think it will be then, when there is no more Rey Mysterio, that people on the show will say ‘Oh but wait, we need Rey.’ And I say this thinking about it as a writer, as a company, as a fanatic, as your colleague; although I don’t think colleagues and colleagues appreciate it more than anyone else, because they really understand it and fully understand what it means. ” He said.
Edge also mentioned that much of the respect and affection he feels for Rey is due to his style. and the way he revolutionized what it means to be a professional wrestler:
“That guy with all his style and what he’s done, that he’s still there, and he’s at the level he’s performing at… He just had a Hell in a Cell with Roman Reigns! I mean, the type – using this word ‘legend’ that is used a lot – the type is a legend. He is a living legend, and one day people will fully embrace how special Rey Mysterio is.
Both members of the WWE Hall of Famers mentioned the fact that it is incredible how Rey triumphed in wrestling as a star with a height well below average (1.68 cm). On this, Edge stated:
“It also has to do with it, think about all the obstacles that he has taken down and the way in which he completely changed an industry… Without him, I don’t think Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson in AEW) would have stood out. You know what I mean? And there are many talents like that. I think Rey Mysterio is the reason it happened; it showed that it worked, and that people were buying it, and that people were paying to see it. “
