“Revolutionizing Retail: Lidl Introduces Digital Price Tags in Czech Republic”

The Lidl retail chain is bringing a really big novelty to the Czech Republic, which you will notice at first glance. No other chain of stores uses something like this yet, but it is becoming more and more common in the West. It is nothing less than digital price tags.

It pays off a lot

You may not think too much about it, but consider that all price tags in chain stores are currently paper. Now imagine the work with that. It has to be constantly printed on new and new paper, changed, thrown away and rechecked to see if there is a bad one somewhere. And of course that will happen. The customers are then angry because a promotional sign, etc., has been forgotten somewhere.

Digital price tags will bring a literal revolution in this regard, especially for employees, but in many ways also for customers. It will be possible to change the prices on them very easily, and in addition, thousands of tons of paper will be saved every year. Yes, that much is spent on something as banal as printing price tags.

Lidl has understandably tested this type of price tags in one of its stores, and the test turned out to be excellent. Therefore, it will now be expanding them to all of its stores, which should be completed by the end of this year. It is understandably a challenging project.

Central control

It is interesting that the price tags will not be managed by each store separately, but will be controlled centrally. Lidl can afford this because it has really uniform prices in all its stores. In this way, he can adjust not only the price itself, but also the weight, composition or other necessary parameters from the headquarters. Employees are said to save up to 400 hours of work per year. According to the chain’s data, one store changes approximately 45,000 price tags in a single year.

In this regard, Lidl is the first, but it can be expected that it will probably not be the last chain to resort to this step. The initial investment soon pays off handsomely in savings on many levels. It is hard to imagine something more effective than the installation of digital price tags. At the same time, the error rate will be reduced and customers will be more satisfied.
