REVIEWS: Vyšehrad Fylm. Incorrect, vulgar, but funny

It was filmed in 2020, but the covid measures postponed the release of the film in the spring of 2021, and instead the filmmakers sent the Vyšehrad Seryjál cinemas last summer, a compilation of the original with tastings of the film.

Today, therefore, Vyšehrad Fylm (the roughs in both names symbolize Lavi’s education) will hit cinemas, and it can be assumed that at least the rock fans of this self-centered guy of the dull will take them by storm. In honor of screenwriter Tomáš Vávra as well as directors Martin Kopp and Jakub Štáfek, who is also the main character and producer, let us be told that they were well aware of the difference between the six- to thirteen-minute sketches that made up the original series and the feature film.

So they created a story for Lavi that has a beginning, a middle and an end. In the beginning, Lavi (again in the sovereign performance of Jakub Štáfek) is the old well-known bartender who is not rude enough for a party, considers girls, alcohol and drugs a natural part of life and does not understand why an upcoming wedding with an equally adorable stupid Lucie (Šárka Vaculíková) to change anything.

Vulgarities in speech, obscenities in sex, black humor, obviousness of booze and drugs, all this is very incorrect, harsh, sometimes very unpleasant. But that was to be expected. It is the “Lavi brand” and there is nothing more to add.

But because Lavi’s football star still doesn’t return from Slavoj Vyšehrad to the coveted Sparta thanks to all this, he and his manager, played by Jakub Prachar, who plays him with a predatory taste, now have a very deep pocket. And as Lavi is as she is, she will solve the problem with a loan that will start another storyline.

The moment the viewer can say that he knows everything he sees from the series, and maybe that was enough, a child enters the stage. An eight-year-old wise boy who informs Lavi that he is his and wants to finally get to know him better. Not to mention that Richard is an almost exact copy of an equally clever and over-educated boy from the recent Extraordinary Event. There can be no question of “copying” in either case, both films were made at about the same time, but the motif of “a child gives a tailcoat to adults” may not be accidental in today’s world.

With the arrival of Ríša (excellently selected and led by Jakub Jenčík), Lavi gets taken over. The boy’s inadequate abilities and education provide many well-used opportunities for gags, and his simple messages to Lavim of what they are are straightforward, harsh, and witty.

Another mentioned line is an insight into the conditions in the football environment, including mafia practices. Here, the creators obviously had enough background material, yet in the end they pushed the saw a little unnecessarily morally.

There is nothing wrong with acting. In addition to the already mentioned, Ondřej Pavelka, David Novotný, Jaroslav Plesl, and Miroslav Hanuš in a small role also master their parties. Sports stars Tomáš Rosický, Patrik Berger, Vladimír Šmicer and others certainly do not be ashamed either.

It is probable that Vyšehrad Fylm will fulfill its purpose of entertaining fans of the series on the movie screen and getting the most out of its popularity. For feminists, staunch animal protectors and all others who require correctness at all costs, it is not. They may not agree with him, they may be upset with him, but that’s all they can do.
