Review: OnePlus Keyboard 81 Pro – Price, Features, and Comparison with Keychron

Of course, we all know OnePlus from its smartphones. The Chinese brand has now been working hard for almost ten years and many tweakers have owned or at least considered a OnePlus phone. OnePlus headphones are probably not unknown products and not so long ago the company released its first tablet.

Less well known are perhaps the OnePlus televisions. Since 2018, the company has released a few TVs, mainly for the Indian market. That brings us to another product that you might not immediately expect from a smartphone maker: keyboards. Yet OnePlus has, not alone, but in collaboration with Keychron, released a keyboard: the OnePlus Keyboard 81 Pro. Keychron produced the keyboard, but with input from the OnePlus community and entirely according to the phone maker’s specifications.

And if you don’t feel like having a OnePlus keyboard at all, you can also buy the same keyboard from Keychron. Visually it’s completely identical, down to the custom OnePlus keycaps. The OnePlus does have a bracket for height adjustment, which the Keychron version does not have. In addition, the only thing that remains a bit unclear is the bottom. Our OnePlus copy features the OnePlus slogan: Never Settle. I can’t find any pictures of the underside on the Keychron website, so I’m not 100% sure if that’s what it says. Since the keyboard is otherwise completely identical, I would also count on the slogan for the Keychron variant.

For those who think: well, nice, a keyboard from a smartphone manufacturer, what’s exciting about that? That’s the price anyway. At OnePlus it is no less than 249 euros; At Keychron you pay 224 dollars, of which 5 dollars are shipping costs, which converts to approximately 210 euros. However, at OnePlus you get a bundle discount on wireless earphones or even a set of Nord Buds 2 worth 69 euros completely free with your order. For around 250 euros you can of course expect a nice keyboard and we will see in this review whether OnePlus can deliver on that.
