Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Shocking news has come about the involvement of the United States (USA) in the war between Russia and Ukraine.
US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan is said to have held secret talks with senior Russian officials. This was done to reduce the risk of the war in Ukraine spreading or leading to a nuclear conflict.
In a widespread report Wall Street newspaperIn recent months Sullivan has held secret conversations with Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov and Russian Security Council secretary Nikolai Patrushev.
Even so, there was no comment and even a clear explanation regarding the content of the conversation in detail. The White House also did not respond to this report.
“People say a lot of things,” National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said Reuters.
The talks themselves took place at a time when relations between the two major powers were in the midst of mounting tensions over Ukraine. Washington accuses Moscow of escalating nuclear war rhetoric with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s remarks that he had a dangerous weapon at hand.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, on the other hand, declined to comment on the secret meeting.
“We have no comment on this publication,” he said.
Meanwhile, US officials are also said to have asked the Ukrainian government to resume dialogue with the Russian side. This is due to the previous statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that he did not want to negotiate with Moscow if it was still headed by President Vladimir Putin.
On this subject, Peskov was once again reluctant to comment much. “Again I repeat that there are some reports that are true, but most of them are purely speculative reports,” he said.
He added that while Russia remains open to talks, it cannot negotiate with Kiev due to the latter’s refusal to hold talks with Russia.
The Russian-Ukrainian war itself has been going on for 8 months since it began on February 24, 2022. The United States has also given aid of up to trillions of rupees to help Ukraine which had been attacked by Putin’s troops.
