High tension for the law, under discussion in Warsaw, which according to the Jewish state hinders almost all future claims for compensation from Polish Jews who survived the Holocaust
Pending the validation of the Senate – According to Israel, it is still possible to block the legislative process and return to the dialogue that was blocked in 2019. However, the law in question has just been approved by the Warsaw parliament and is in the process of being validated by the Senate.
Survivor Compensation Claims – The law concerns the return of assets confiscated from Polish Jews during World War II and, according to Israeli media, sets a deadline after which claims for compensation from Holocaust survivors will no longer be considered.
“A moral debt of Poland” – Director General Allon Bar, according to the statement, added that in this case “it is not a historical debate on responsibility in the Shoah, but a moral debt of Poland towards its citizens whose assets were stolen during the Shoah”.
