Hundreds of physicians belonging to the Association of Pensioned Doctors, Retirees of Retirement Age of the Dominican Medical College pThey protested in front of the facilities of the General Directorate of Retirements and Pensions (DGJP), where they demanded that the government institution comply with laws 414-98 and 87-01 regarding obtaining a medical insurance that guarantees better medical coverage.
They explained that SENASA health insurance is of poor qualitythat is, it covers absolutely nothing for retired doctors.
“No medical professional takes it; SENASA does not cover catastrophic illnesses going through vicissitudes and embarrassment in front of the colleagues who serve us,” said the president of the entity, Dr. Dalma De la Rosawho was accompanied by the president of the Dominican Medical College, Dr. Senén Caba, Francisca Moronta, general secretary of the union, as well as the former president of the CMD, Dr. Amarilis Herrera.
Dr. De la Rosa stated that she is waiting for compliance with the law; the government is obliged to comply with the protection of health insurance because it is an acquired right.
Likewise, they demanded that pensions be updated periodically according to the cost of living record, as well as the consumer price index.
They explained that hundreds of pending pensioned doctors are receiving less than RD $50,000.00, that is, it must be increased as soon as possible, in order to comply with the agreement signed between the Government and the Dominican Medical College on December 21, 2020.
Meanwhile, the president of the CMD, Dr. Senén Caba, expressed that the protest seeks to include pensioned and retired doctors in contributory insurance as they were before.
“Here pensioners are run over every day; We demand fair treatment and guarantee of rights. Regarding Law 414-98, as well as the rights that said law grants to that group of people who today cannot integrate into productive work,” he said.
