The lawyer Judith Pirscher has been the district president in the Detmold administrative district since December 2019. She was born in Dortmund in 1967, studied law in Bayreuth, completed her legal clerkship in North Rhine-Westphalia and, after passing her second state examination, worked as a public law attorney. From 1998 she worked for the environmental policy spokeswoman for the FDP parliamentary group. In 2000, Pirscher switched to the FDP parliamentary group in Düsseldorf as deputy managing director and legal advisor. There she was responsible for the areas of domestic and local politics as well as the area of ​​constitutional and parliamentary questions. In 2005 she took over the political coordination in the NRW Ministry of the Interior as head of the ministerial office. From there she moved to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution in the Ministry of the Interior before becoming permanent representative of the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information for the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in October 2010. The department head Kornelia Haugg, born in 1960 and studied household science and nutrition, has been department head in the Federal Ministry of Education since 2006. After working as a research assistant at the Institute for Economics and Consumer Research at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen (since 1985), Haugg became a consultant for youth and family research at the Federal Ministry for Youth, Family, Women and Health in 1988. In 1989 she switched to the BMBF as a consultant, where she was initially head of the division for strategy and planning from 2000 and subdivision head for research institutions and the science council from 2005.

Christian Luft was appointed State Secretary in the BMBF in October 2018. Before that, he was department head for social, health, labor market, infrastructure and social policy in the Federal Chancellery, where he was also responsible for education and research.

Prof. Dr. Wolf-Dieter Lukas was appointed State Secretary in the BMBF in September 2019. He holds a doctorate in physics, is honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin and has been with the BMBF since 1986.
