Restrictions coming back? A clear voice of the deputy health minister

“Dynamics, and not only absolute values, have an impact on what decisions are made” – said Deputy Health Minister Janusz Cieszyński on Thursday (30 July). He added that if the epidemiological situation requires it – “we are ready to introduce restrictions on flights and, secondly, to consider instruments such as quarantine”.

On the last day, 615 new coronavirus infections have been confirmed, which is the highest number since the beginning of the epidemic. The Ministry of Health also announced that 15 more people have died. The total number of infected thus reached 45,031; 1,709 people died.

When asked on TVN24 on Wednesday about the reasons for the increase in infections, Minister Cieszyński said that we are still dealing with coronavirus outbreaks in three provinces with large industrial plants where people work close to each other. “From the very beginning, we paid attention to ensure appropriate working conditions along with defrosting. (…) Prime Minister Emilewicz met with representatives of all industries with whom she discussed how they should return to normal operation” – recalled the deputy minister health, judging that “this level of safety should be increased”. “We will analyze the situation thoroughly,” he said.

When asked if some restrictions would come back, the deputy health minister replied that “if there is a conviction among experts that it is necessary to return to some of these restrictions, we will not go back.” At the same time, he pointed out that the introduction of restrictions in March at the beginning of the epidemic made it possible to stop the increase in the incidence very quickly and not lead to the fact that the number of infected people in Poland, which is reported every day, is calculated in thousands, as in other European countries.

He noted that restrictions appeared when a significant increase in the number of infections was observed. “Dynamics, not only absolute values, have an impact on what decisions are made” – said the deputy health minister. He added that the introduction of restrictions and restrictions in Poland at the beginning of the pandemic was also influenced by the situation in neighboring countries, which, as he said, “could lead to destabilization”.

Cieszyński said that now both the society and the medical staff have learned to function in the era of epidemics. “They are also better prepared. Therefore, according to the minister, it is unjustified to compare the current situation with the one that took place at the beginning of the epidemic. He also pointed out that the number of infected people had dropped by several thousand since mid-June.” 14 thousand, and currently there are approx. 9 thousand. We can see that the total number of these active cases has decreased. “

Asked whether Poles leaving on vacation in August should be prepared that they may be quarantined, Cieszyński replied that according to the latest recommendations of the Minister of Health, flights to two European countries have already been closed due to the number of people infected there.

He stated that the situation was monitored on an ongoing basis. “We are in contact with partners from other European countries and if the epidemiological situation requires it (…) we are ready to introduce restrictions on flights, and secondly – to consider such instruments as quarantine, which was in force in Poland for several months all those coming from abroad, said Cieszyński.
