Restaurants: “Chez Lulu” in Hyères and “Café DS” in Bordeaux

In Hyères, “Chez Lulu”, Italy in winter

On the avenue des Îles d’Or, opposite the Palais Lutétia, Lulu and her husband have put down their Italian cuisine. Gnocchi with porcini mushrooms and gorgonzola, linguine with Apulian sauce, pork belly in tomato sauce, remarkable caponata, it’s hard to choose from all the more tempting options. Following the winter sun on the terrace, from table to table, carrying around the carafe of a very pleasant house wine – nice list of Italian appellations -, lunch ends in front of the adjoining delicatessen where you can can prolong the pleasure. A few steps away, the Porte de Fenouillet opens the way to the narrow streets of the medieval town which climb towards the castle and the Noailles villa with gardens conducive to a digestive siesta. F. B.

How much : 30 euros on average for starter, main course and dessert.

Where is it : 14 avenue des Iles d’Or, 83400 Hyères. Such. : 04 94 00 32 61. Reservation recommended.

In Bordeaux, “Café DS”, a healthy and bohemian canteen

D for David, S for Sandrine. The couple of Parisian restaurateurs are still at the helm of the bohemian canteen which has found its setting on the charming Place du Parlement. Both inside and on the vegetal terrace, the decor is stylish and warm, like the (artificial) sheepskins placed on the rattan chairs to warm up the customer. We come to Café DS especially for its Sunday brunch, both healthy and hearty with its avocado toast, pancakes with maple syrup and fruit salad freshly cut by the owner himself. On other days, salads, Italian piadinas and avocado toast will delight lovers of “healthy” food and reconcile vegetarians and carnivores. I.L.

How much : 22 euros for Sunday brunch. Plats between 12 and 17 euros.

Where is it : 18 Parliament Square, 33000 Bordeaux. Tel: 05 57 99 98 48.
