KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) mentioned a number of figures who were considered suitable as vice presidential candidates (cawapres) for Ganjar Pranowo.
Jokowi conveyed this when he was interviewed by the media crew after holding the Eid al-Fitr prayer at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Solo, Central Java, Saturday (22/4/2023).
Two of the seven names mentioned by Jokowi are Prabowo Subianto and Mahfud MD. Then, what is their response?
Prabowo said he was reluctant to speculate about the discourse on a duet with Ganjar. The reason is, he has been nominated as a presidential candidate from his party, Gerindra.
“The party nominated me as a presidential candidate. My party is a bit strong now,” the General Chair of the Gerindra Party joked when met by journalists at Jokowi’s residence in Solo, Saturday.

Apart from that, Prabowo said that his party was still observing the current political situation.
“Look at the developments and dynamics. He (Ganjar Pranowo) has been nominated as a presidential candidate. We’ll see the developments and dynamics. Don’t make assumptions,” he said.
The man who is the Minister of Defense explained that he would not be hasty in choosing a candidate for his cawapres.
In addition, he admitted that he already had a list of figures deemed suitable for the vice presidential position.
“We’ll see the progress, it’s still a long way off. Registration for October is still a long way off,” he said.

How did Mahfud MD respond?
He responded casually to the news that he was mentioned by Jokowi as one of the figures who were considered suitable to accompany Ganjar.
“For me, every political event will continue to flow as part of the democratic process,” he said in Probolinggo Regency, East Java, Saturday.
According to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, political news is always good to read.
“Every political event, I like to read,” he explained.

Ganjar Pranowo was officially promoted as the PDI-P presidential candidate. Megawati announced this on Friday (21/4/2023), at the Bogor Writing Palace.
Apart from Prabowo Subianto and Mahfud MD, Jokowi also mentioned a number of figures who were considered suitable as vice presidential candidates for Ganjar.
“Many are suitable. There are many. There is Mr. Erick (Thohir), there is Mr. Sandiaga Uno, there are many, right. There is Mr. Mahfud (MD), there is Mr. Ridwan Kamil, there are many. Who else? There is Cak Imim (Muhaimin Iskandar), there is Pak Airlangga (Hartarto),” he explained.
“Including Pak Prabowo,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ganjar did not comment much when asked about his running mate.
“Everything was clear yesterday. Mrs. Mega already announced that all DPPs were there and yesterday I came home to (accompany) Pak Jokowi. I was briefed by him,” he explained.
“(About the cawapres) later, please be patient. Let the news add up,” he said.
Ganjar Pranowo has been named as the presidential candidate for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). The announcement was made by the Chairperson of PDI-P Megawati Soekarnoputri at the Batu Tulis Palace, Bogor, West Java, Friday (21/4/2023).
