Residents Herkenbosch will not return until noon after evacuation due to wildfire

It will certainly take until noon before the evacuated residents of the Limburg village of Herkenbosch can return home. This is said by the Limburg North Safety Region 1Limburg. The approximately 4000 inhabitants had to out of their house tonight because of a wildfire nearby.

According to the safety region, it was a precautionary measure to avoid risks to public health. The smoke contains a high concentration of carbon monoxide. The flames themselves do not threaten the village.

The eviction of Herkenbosch lasted all night. The village was split into several zones, which were evacuated one by one. Most residents have left.

The fire is raging in De Meinweg National Park. The municipality of Roerdalen, which includes Herkenbosch, decided late last night to evacuate the entire village, because of “the persistent smoke and the expectation that it will not decrease during the night”.
