Researchers Reveal the Efficacy of Guava Leaves for Hair Care

Jakarta – Guava plants have medicinal properties starting from the fruit and leaves. Researchers reveal the content of guava leaves can be used for hair care.

Reported from detikEduThe United States Department of Agriculture outlines that, 100 grams (g) of raw guava fruit contains 68 calories, 14.32 grams of carbohydrates, 8.92 grams of sugar, 5.4 grams of dietary fiber, 417 mg of potassium, 228.3 mg of vitamin C and 624 international units of vitamin A.

“Guava leaves are considered an extraordinary fruit. Known as a powerhouse of nutrition, they contain vitamins B and C, which help increase collagen, which is important for hair growth,” said dermatologist and Director General of Amity University Uttar Pradesh India, Dr. Ajay Rana, quoted from Hindustantimes.

“It is a source of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, which help keep the scalp healthy,” she adds.

The content of Vitamin C Helps Hair Growth

Dr Rana explained that the content of vitamin C in guava leaves can increase collagen activity which helps hair growth. Then the lycopene content provides protection from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.

“Guava leaves can also be used as a thickening agent,” explained Dr. Rana.

Dr Rana said the large amounts of vitamins B and C found in the leaves can also help nourish the follicles and aid hair growth.

Antioxidants to Prevent Hair Damage

Guava leaves also contain antioxidants that can fight free radicals. This content prevents hair damage.

These analgesic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can help maintain optimal scalp health and treat dandruff.

“You can do this by massaging the extract deeply into your scalp,” says Dr Rana.
