Trump versus Biden
In his nomination speech at the Democrats’ congress, Biden had promised, among other things, to lead the country out of the “darkness” with which Trump had covered it if it won an election in November. Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama – under whom Biden was vice-president – portrayed the incumbent as a danger to democracy and accused him of failure and abuse of power.
“The Democrats held the darkest, angry and gloomy party congress in American history,” criticized Trump afterwards. His term of office until the Corona crisis was “the most successful period in the history of our country, by any measure,” he explained. “Where Joe Biden sees American darkness, I see American greatness.”
Trump had no serious internal party challengers in the primary campaign. As a success of his term of office, he presented above all a positive development of the economy, which the pandemic brought to an abrupt end. According to statistics from Johns Hopkins University, more than 176,000 people in the United States have died after being infected with the coronavirus. Millions of people became unemployed. Biden accuses Trump of failing to protect Americans.
