Representatives of the G20 countries will discuss the war in Ukraine and its consequences in India / Article

Before the event, the entertainer – Indian Foreign Minister Vinays Kwatra – stated that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will be discussed. At the same time, due attention will be paid to the challenges faced by the whole world, especially developing countries – the availability of food and fertilizers, as well as energy and other economic issues.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will also participate in the event, as well as the heads of the US and Chinese foreign affairs departments, so the discussions could be intense.

India was one of the countries that abstained from the UN vote on the resolution condemning Russia’s aggression in Ukraine.

India’s long-standing security ties with Russia and its refusal to condemn the war waged by Russia have put India, the host country of the meeting, in an awkward diplomatic position. However, the high representative of the European Union in foreign affairs, Giuseppe Borel, has expressed confidence that India will use this meeting to “make Russia understand that this war must end”.

India, meanwhile, wants the issue of the war in Ukraine not to overshadow other topics such as climate change and third world debt.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken does not have a meeting with the foreign ministers of China and Russia. The representatives of the three countries were last in person together at the G20 meeting held last July. Western delegates fear that China is considering supplying weapons to its Russian ally, so the meeting will be used as an opportunity to dissuade Beijing from intervening in the war.

Meanwhile, the Reuters agency, citing four US officials and other sources, reports that the US is talking to close allies about the possibility of imposing new sanctions against China if Beijing decides to provide military support to Russia.
