In order for the insurance company to pay, you must report storm damage immediately. In addition, those affected should document the damage with photos and videos, advises the General Association of the German Insurance Industry. And they should seek out proof of purchase. As long as the insurance company has not responded, the insured must prevent consequential damage from occurring, for example by temporarily closing windows or clearing away branches and roof tiles that are lying around.
