Renault today unveiled the name of its upcoming SUV, which will be called Austral. The name was derived from the Latin “australis”, which is widespread in many European languages and, in addition to the translation “Australian”, can also symbolize the term “southern”.
“AUSTRAL also evokes the colors and warmth of the Southern Hemisphere. It’s a name that encourages travel and is perfect for SUVs. Its phonetics are harmonious, balanced and easy to pronounce for everyone and has an international dimension,” said Sylvia Dos Santos, Head of Strategy. names and names at Renault’s Global Marketing Directorate.

Regarding the new model, the carmaker states that its technology, spaciousness and driving pleasure represent a new offer in the category of compact SUVs. At the same time, it will be another model that will complement Renault’s offensive to gain a C-segment.
It was launched with the Arkana model and will soon be joined by the purely electric Megane E-Tech. Renault Austral will not be introduced until next spring and it is not yet clear when it will go on sale. According to the carmaker, however, it will offer a length of 4.51 meters, can accommodate up to five passengers and will currently replace the Kadjar model.

the classic five-seater version could also be an extended seven-seater version, allegedly able to replace the Koleos and Espace models. A version of the SUV coupe could also arrive later, replacing the Talisman model.
A wide variety of powertrains should appear under the hood of Kadjar’s successor, including internal combustion engines, mild-hybirds and plu-in hybrids. But we can probably forget about diesel engines. But we will have to wait for more information.
