Renārs Zeltiņš: Debut is expected in the Coast Match

The shore match will take place in Riga for the 11th time over the weekend, but an unprecedented event is also expected, as medical teams will meet on the basketball court for the first time, one of the event leaders Renārs Zeltiņš said in an interview on Latvian Television on Friday.

For the first time, the Coast Match will take place on the AB dam, and the good news for the participants is the promised good weather. Zeltiņš said that 65 teams applied for participation in the match, but the 48 units determined by the lottery will be able to start. Zeltins sees that the popularity of the Coast Match was promoted by the conditions of the pandemic, because the calendar of events is empty, but people are hungry to play basketball.

The first duel of the medical teams in the match is scheduled for Sunday, August 16, when the combined team of the Emergency Medical Service and Riga Stradins University will go on the field against the staff of Riga 2nd Hospital. Professor Andrejs Ērglis will also prove his basketball skills on the field. The game will be available live on LTV7 and replay.lv.

Before the 11th Coast match, the result of the Daugava right and left bank team duel is a draw 5: 5. Zeltiņš predicted that the closest right bank to him could take the lead on Sunday, but next year the match will be tied again.

The shore match will take place without spectators, but lsm.lv and replay.lv will be able to see all events live 24 hours a day. Part of the games and various mastery competitions, as well as an entertainment program will also be available to watch live on LTV7. The tournament activities will be complemented by the LTV7 program “Sports Studio”, which will be hosted by journalist Reinis Ošenieks, inviting guests to the studio.

“Krastu mačs” is a 24-hour basketball tournament in which the residents of the right and left banks of the Daugava traditionally participate and compete with each other. Also this year, the winning team will get a traveling cup for a year, the author of which is the professor of the Latvian Academy of Arts, sculptor Aigars Bikše.
