France is regarded as one of the world’s best national teams and one of the brightest stars is centre-back Wendie Renard.

But now she quits the national team. At least temporarily.

The centre-back announces on Instagram that she refuses to play under national team captain Corinne Diacre. As a result, Renard, who is captain in Lyon and has worn the armband in the national team, will miss the WC in New Zealand and Australia.

“I can no longer stand behind the current system. It is a sad but sad day,” she writes according to RMC Sport.

Renard has made 142 caps and that makes her one of those who made the most caps for France.

According to RMC Sport, Diacre hangs loose as the national team captain and that due to, among other things, a lack of great success and strange team selections.
