Remembering the Life and Legacy of Actor Darren Kent: From “Game of Thrones” to “Alleviate”

The actor Darren Kent died last Friday as reported in the last hours by the agency that represented him. He was 36 years old and suffered from a congenital skin and bone health problem. The actor was recognized for his participation in the series “Game of Thrones”. The news of his death shocked his colleagues and followers. The last released work of his was the film “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”

“It is with deep sadness that we have to tell you that our dear friend and client Darren Kent passed away peacefully on Friday. His parents and his best friend were next to him. Our thoughts and love are with his family at this difficult time, ”says the text published on the official Twitter account of the agency.

Jane Gull, director and screenwriter of the movie “Love Without Walls” also paid tribute to the actor. “What a privilege it was to be your friend and work with you on so many projects over the years,” she wrote Gull. “Life will not be the same without you. I’ll miss you a lot”.

Kent suffered from a skin disorder, as well as osteoporosis and arthritis. His delicate health condition became more complex throughout his life but it did not deprive him of exercising his vocation as an actor, writer and director. Born and raised in Essex, Great Britain, he landed his first major role in the 2008 horror film Sinister Mirrors, starring Donald Sutherland, and gained his first major break in 2012 for his lead in the feature film “Sunny Boy,” which It told the story of a boy with a rare condition on his skin, precisely something that he himself suffered from. Thanks to that performance, he received an award at the Van D’or Independent Film Awards.

His credits include participations in “Les miserables”, and the series “EastEnders” and “The Frankenstein Chronicles”, among others. However, it was his role in “Game of Thrones” that represented his rise to fame. His participation came in episode number 10 of the fourth season entitled “The Boy”. Kent’s intervention was brief but very powerful: in the plot he is in charge of presenting Daenerys Targaryen with the charred corpse of her daughter due to the fire generated by her dragons. The pain of her character moves Daenerys to such an extent that she decides to chain her dragons, generating a deep internal conflict in the Khaleesi, played by Emilia Clarke.

The last artistic project that featured Kent was “Alleviate”, in which the actor was the protagonist. Although the film has yet to be released, Darren shared his enthusiasm for the film last July and was very proud of his acting performance despite generally being “the worst critic of his own work.” . On his part, “Alleviate” director Daniel Keeble sent Darren a letter highlighting his extraordinary work:

“I’ve been working on Alleviate all day… and right now I can’t put into words how I feel. I’m not sure I’ve done something so emotional… I can’t stop crying. I never fucking cry. I’ve seen this over ten times, and I’m crying every time. I’ve had to take breaks to compose myself. I want to thank you for giving everything. It really shows in your performance… your anger, your pain, your suffering, your confusion, your guilt. A magnificent material; You should feel very proud when you see it, ”wrote the director, highlighting the actor’s performance in what would be his posthumous work.
