The Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate issued the following statement: Journalist Elias Al-Deiri passed away after the suffering he endured in recent years, especially as a result of the Beirut Port explosion. He was a writer, literary figure, and storyteller who spent his life as a hermit in the silo of the pen. He did not know any weapon other than him. He joined the Lebanese Press Editors Syndicate in 1962, and fought within its ranks defending freedom of opinion and expression.

The head of the Syndicate of Press Editors, Joseph Al-Qasifi, said in his obituary: Just as “the wolf returned to Al-Atuq,” Elias Al-Dairi returned to the soil from which he was born, carrying nothing from his world except a pen whose ink has flowed with creativity for decades on end. “Zian” was the rebel on the pages of Al-Nahar, after Elias the journalist was the interlocutor of senior politicians, and the source of the files in supplements titled: “Presidential Affairs,” in which he shed light on the personalities of the candidates qualified to enter Baabda Palace, and collected in these supplements that were issued by “Al-Nahar.” Accuracy of information, elegance of style and depth of analysis. The “taint” of literature stuck with him, so he dipped his brush in fire, rose water, and jasmine perfume, and it was the basis for the formation of his personality, in which revolution was mixed with anger and the breezes of love, so much so that you thought you were facing a unique man in shaping his presence to the rhythm of the feelings he felt. Elegant in his dress, he loved life to the point of intoxication, after he filled her cup to the brim. He was toasting it with joy because he was the son of life. This is how Elias Al-Dairy Ibn Deddah is in the green country, whose pristine nature was filled with beauties that he brought down on his profession, and his urban interruption did not make him forget the roots to which he remained loyal. In Freedom Square, the loud knight, with a loud voice and tone, was not betrayed by courage. He “dismounted” like a “knight” in his novel “The Murdered One,” joining senior colleagues who were enriched by the profession that elevated them and with them, and he was the one who never wanted it, nor was he seduced by another profession. He owned a publication, so he gave up ownership years ago, asking to return to the editors’ union roster, because it was his home and his union, and he had what he wanted. How painful it is for the union to leave a colleague of this stature, joining his comrades who immortalized the Lebanese and Arab press with their fingerprints, the greatness of their contributions, and the strength of their presence in the public scene. How painful it is for her to fall one after another in the last minute of her life after they completed their quest and fought the good fight. Elias Al-Diri, goodbye, and you are on your eternal journey to the world of the immortals.
