Adults are not bothered much by the RS virus: it causes complaints such as a runny nose and coughing. But the resistance of infants to the virus is low. In a small proportion, infection leads to a respiratory infection, with severe shortness of breath and sometimes death as a result. The rapid increase in the number of infections is now causing shortages in the pediatric wards of hospitals in the southwest of the Netherlands, especially in Rotterdam.
