What will the James Webb telescope see in the future?
Thanks to its large mirror and ability to ‘see’ through gas and dust in the infrared spectrum, the James Webb, or JWST for short, can see much further into the universe than previous space telescopes. Scientists hope to learn more about the origin of the universe, but also, for example, whether life is possible on planets near other stars.
The telescope should last for at least five years, but because the telescope has used very little fuel after launch, it will probably last more than ten years.
