With an investment of more than S / 9 million, the Piura Regional Government, through the Regional Directorate of Agriculture, executes the Public Investment Project “Improvement of support services in the white cocoa value chain in production, post-harvest, transformation and marketing stages in the provinces of Morropón, Huancabamba, Ayabaca and Piura”, with an execution period of three years.

With the execution of this project, the yields of white cocoa cultivation, which are very low compared to other regions, have been improving through the installation of demonstration plots in new areas and with crops of more than 7 years, where they are trained to producers on issues related to fertilization, technical irrigation, pruning and the sanitary aspect of the plant.
The Piura Regional Government directly benefits 3,500 white cocoa producers from 21 districts of the provinces of Ayabaca, Huancabamba, Morropón and Piura (Tambogrande and Las Lomas), generating around 5,000 workdays.
To date, young people, mothers and older adults have been working in the production of one million cocoa seedlings in nurseries that are then transplanted to demonstration plots, significantly improving the economic income of the families involved.
