By now you will already know a good handful of secrets belonging to the Pokémon saga. At Pokémaster we have told you a multitude of curiosities about the saga, both during its development and Easter-eggs hidden in the video games. Do not think that you already know them all, because surely the one we bring you today has escaped you or you have not even noticed it.

Let’s put ourselves in situation. We travel back to the first four generations of Pokémon: Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow; Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald; as well as the remakes of Gold/Silver and Red/Blue. What do these generations have in common? Well, very simple: mentions and winks to movies.

They do not appear on a poster in a town or in the form of characters taken directly from Persian films, but rather phrases for which we must be very attentive and of course have certain notions of cinema so that they do not escape us.

Let’s start with Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow. In all three games reference is made to “four boys walking along the train tracks”a more than obvious mention of the film ‘Stand by Me’. In the remakes of Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow, the film is also mentioned in a subtle way, but also adding one more film. A female character will tell you that she has recently seen a movie in which she appears “a girl with pigtails walking down a brick road.” Of course this is a very clear mention of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

We jump to Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald. On this occasion, a character will tell us that on TV he has seen a movie where “two men were dancing on a giant piano.” Do you know the movie? Indeed, it is the classic Bigstarring Tom Hanks.

Finally, in the remakes of Pokémon Silver and Gold We will see another nod to cinema, although this time something more complicated to catch. It’s about the movie ‘Tom and Huck’, much less known and is mentioned in the phrase “two boys in a cave looking for treasure.” What did you think of the references? Have you found any more?
