In a rare incident, Mexican referee Fernando Hernandez did not control himself, and in his anger he struck a player with his knee during America’s match against Lyon, which led to his suspension for 12 matches.

In a fit of anger, Hernandez struck Lyon midfielder Lucas Romero, who was also suspended for two matches.
However, Romero confirmed after the match that he did not demand that Hernandez be punished, because it was just a misunderstanding, adding that he asked the referee to show respect only on the field.

“I offer a special apology to the fans and also to the player Lucas Romero for my reaction,” Hernandez said at the weekend.
He added, “I will not attack him or any other player, and I will abide by the decision of the Disciplinary Committee.”
