Porsche, the sports car division of the Volkswagen group, is setting up a joint venture with the German company Customcells to produce high-performance batteries, which will significantly reduce the charging time for electric vehicles, News.ro reports.
The partnership with Customcells, a company in southern Germany specializing in lithium-ion battery cells, will aim to produce car batteries with a higher energy density than the prototypes used in Porsche’s current electric cars, the company said in a statement.
European carmakers are working to reduce their dependence on Asian battery suppliers as they launch all-electric models to meet stricter emissions targets in the European Union.
