Redmi K70 and K70 Pro – One body, but two separate souls

Redmi’s new high-end smartphones have arrived with the K70 series. The K70 and K70 Pro have a very similar structure in many respects, but regardless, there will be serious differences between the machines. These have already been completely renewed in terms of software, they are not deployed with the MIUI graphical user interface

The mobiles were presented with a unified display, the AMOLED technology panel was developed in collaboration with TCL, which will be able to produce a really high peak brightness thanks to the “C8 material”. Up to 4,000 nits are available here, which is completely unprecedented, and mobile phones also offer 12-bit support for a better color world, and there is also DCI-P3 color space support.

The screens have a diagonal of 6.68 inches with a flat design. They use a resolution of 3200 x 1440 pixels, so they can hardly be criticized in terms of detail. The devices are also capable of 120 Hz operation, and handling Dolby Vision and HDR10+ recordings is no problem for them either.

New features arrive with the Android 14 operating system, and the Redmi brand, under the auspices of Xiaomi, is already using HyperOS from now on. The completely new interface that replaces MIUI already serves the purpose of better synchronization between different Xioami products in the future. In principle, this has become much faster and easier than MIUI, while its appearance is reminiscent of the old solution so that customers do not have to learn everything completely all over again. We have previously written about HyperOS in more detail.

The subjects of our news use the fancifully named Light Fusion 800 sensor as the basis of the primary imager. It’s a 1/1.55-inch, 50 MPixel sensor that can also combine pixels to increase its sensitivity to light – as the name suggests. The optics associated with the main camera have an aperture of F/1.6 and also received an optical stabilizer.

The Redmi K70 Pro is stronger than its counterpart in terms of camera, and this is reflected in the fact that its companion cameras are much better. In the case of the K70, the surround is made up of an 8-megapixel, ultra-wide-angle unit and a 2-megapixel, macro-capable unit. On the other hand, the K70 Pro has a 12MP camera on board with an ultra-wide angle (120°) that also provides macro shooting. And a 50-megapixel, 2x optical zoom solution is also provided, so you can, for example, create better portraits.

The dual primary imager of the Redmi K70 can be used for 8K Ultra HD video recording, and EIS (electronic stabilization) is also provided for the smoothest possible videos. The sensor and extremely muscular hardware allow the machines to record 960 FPS video in Full HD quality, and even 1920 FPS will be available in 720p. HDR video recording is also supported.

It should also be noted that the irons come with a 16MP front camera. They reach an acceptable level in taking self-portraits, but this will not be their main strength. Unfortunately, they won’t flash much in the video game either, 4K is a dream here, you have to make do with 1080p support – it’s still enough for video chats, but you have to look for another mobile for vlogging.

The devices come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips, of course the K70 Pro got the latter, and the K70 has to make do with the previous high-end system chip. There will be no complaints about the speed in any case, and the K70 Pro received the advanced cooling in which the coolant circulates regularly, thanks to which it is up to 3 times more efficient than general mobile cooling.

The system memory can be 12 or 16 GB for the K70 model, and the K70 Pro is also available in a 24 GB variant. The storage capacity of smartphones starts at 256 GB and can reach 512 GB and 1 TB regardless of the available space model.

The structures come with 5G support, but they only focus on the Sub-6 range, which is a bit sad, but you usually see that Chinese manufacturers do not offer mmWave support. The list of mobile phone connection capabilities also includes Wi-Fi 7 and a Bluetooth module with Dual-Bluetooth option, which enables the simultaneous use of two wireless devices. Mobile phones also provide an NFC chip and infrared, as well as an advanced A-GPS receiver. There is also dual-SIM support, of course the machines are only capable of DSDS operation.

The smartphones come in black, white and green, and the Redmi K70 also comes in a purple version, and the K70 Pro can be expected to have Lamborghini special editions. The devices weigh 209 grams with the 8.2 mm thick housing. In all cases, the frame is made of aluminum alloy, so it is interspersed with antenna strips.

Those interested can count on stereo sound, and Dolby Atmos support is also provided. There is no 3.5 mm socket, however, and you can use the USB-C connector to connect wired earphones or headphones to the mobile phone. The devices carry the fingerprint reader behind the screen. The machines use 5000 mAh batteries, and both allow charging with a power of 120 watts. Thanks to this, they are fully charged from a discharged state in approximately 18 minutes.

The Redmi K70 models debut in China with an excellent price-value ratio. It starts at 2,500 yuan with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and the top of the range will cost 3,400 yuan with 16GB of memory and 1TB of storage. And the Redmi K70 Pro costs 3,300 yuan in the 12/256 GB version, and its range extends to 4,400 yuan (24 GB/1 TB). Converted, we can talk about amounts between 125 and 165 thousand forints for the cheaper machine, and the Redmi K70 Pro will range between 160 and 215 thousand forints. Their distribution in China starts on December 1.
