Redfall, Bethesda’s open-world supernatural shooter coming May 2 for the Xbox Series consoles and PC, and which will also be part of Game Pass, requires a 24/7 internet connection for players limited to single-player.

In a previously published faq reports Bethesda that players must be online not only for the co-op mode, but also for the single player. In addition, a Bethesda.net account is required to play the game. To play Redfall, players must link their Bethesda account to their Steam or Xbox account.

Nowadays, there are a number of single-player games that require such a means of control, as is the case, for example, with the PC version of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 campaign remaster, which came out in 2020. It was also the case with the single player of For Honor, which appeared in February 2017.

There are also games that do not require a constant internet connection in single player and limit that to periodic checks. The requirement for a continuous Internet connection is particularly critical, as problems with the publisher’s or developer’s servers or the closure of those servers can mean that play is made impossible.

Recently during Microsoft’s Developer_Direct live stream, it became clear that Redfall appears on May 2. The shooter focuses mainly on co-op and is open to up to four players, but the story can also be played alone. In the game, players are stranded in the island village of Redfall in the US state of Massachusetts. The village has been attacked by vampires, after which they have sealed off the island and blocked all sunlight. The game will have four characters, each with specific and sometimes supernatural properties and powers.
