Red level in three new municipalities

On Friday night, a red level was introduced in the upper secondary schools, the upper secondary schools and the adult education in Drammen

– In the last week, we have seen a sharp increase in infection among school students. Therefore, it is necessary to implement strict measures to slow down and hopefully stop the spread of infection among young people. So as of Monday 15 March, all upper secondary schools and upper secondary schools in Drammen municipality are at a red level, says infection control chief Einar Sagberg to Drammens Tidende.

On Tuesday, the councilor will present a proposal for a new local infection control regulation, the newspaper writes.

On Friday, 28 new cases of infection were detected in Drammen in the last 24 hours, and it is schools and kindergartens that have been hardest hit.

At 23 o’clock, Sarpsborg and Halden also announce that they are introducing a red level.

– We see more outbreaks in the schools and are now worried that the pressure on infection tracking and testing will be too great. Outbreaks in schools lead to a large number of close contacts and quarantines. In addition, all close contacts are also tested twice now, says Erik Bråthen, director of upbringing in Sarpsborg municipality, in a press release.

He says that they do not see the same outbreaks in the kindergartens, and that they therefore keep the yellow level and normal opening hours there.

In Halden, municipal chief physician Kjersti Gjøsund decided to put the upper secondary schools and Halden upper secondary school on a red level, with a duration until Easter.

– After a demanding time, with increasing infection and very many in quarantine the last two weeks, this is the right thing to do now, says Gjøsund in a press release.
