“Red Bull Racing’s Horner Flattered by Hamilton’s Praise, But Cautious of Competition Ahead”

Christian Horner is flattered by Lewis Hamilton’s statements about the Red Bull Racing car. With the RB19, the Austrian team currently seems almost unbeatable and Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez are therefore in the first two places in the championship. Horner, however, guards against too much optimism. The team boss knows that there are still enough points to be scored and that other teams will improve.

Hamilton said after the first two races of the season that the RB19 is the fastest car he has ever seen. From the mouth of the Briton are nice words for Red Bull. “Obviously it’s very flattering, especially when you consider the cars Lewis has driven lately,” Horner is quoted as saying by Motorsportweek.com. “But we do have a great car. The RB19 is a fantastic starting point for the season for us and to have two one-twos already is more than we could have expected.’

“But we are aware that it is a very long season,” the Red Bull team boss continues. After the cancellation of the Chinese Grand Prix, there are still twenty races to go and six sprint races. In addition, the competitors now have three weeks to work on the car for the next race. We know that major updates for the other teams are coming in the coming weeks when we return to Europe. So there’s still a lot to do and a long way to go.’

Horner: ‘It will take four races before we see what the real shape is’

Red Bull already had the dominant car at the end of the 2022 season. However, Mercedes and Ferrari failed to close the gap in the winter and currently Aston Martin seems to be the biggest competitor. “We see that some teams have made progress and some have not. But that will vary from track to track, venue to venue. And I’ve always said it will take three or four races before we get a real sense of what the real shape of the season is,” said Horner.
