Red Bull Racing confirms significant update for Grand Prix Belgium

Red Bull Racing hopes during the race weekend in Belgium a lot closer behind Mercedes to sit, says Helmut Marko. This should not only be done by ‘banning’ the party mode, but also by means of a major update on the cars of Max Verstappen in Alexander Albon.

Red Bull Racing has had a difficult start to the season. While during a ‘normal’ season the first few circuits usually go better with the cars of Mercedes, with a double header in Austria and the Grand Prix of Hungary this time the Austrian formation seemed to have an advantage in the opening phase of the championship. However, the Milton Keynes team turned out to have gone down a wrong path with the chassis, resulting in an incredibly difficult RB16 to drive in the first few races.

However, the first improvements now seem to be visible. Albon still has trouble with the stubborn carriage, but Verstappen seems to have found his way. The Dutchman has already been on the podium five times in a row and even managed to win the second race at Silverstone – even if it was partly due to his own tire management. That the gap with Mercedes is still too big, however, was shown again in Spain last weekend. Verstappen knew Valtteri Bottas it was true that right at the start, but when Hamilton started to accelerate after eleven laps, victory soon turned out to be no longer possible.

Helmut Marko – who previously announced that Red Bull wants to compete for pole position due to the upcoming ‘ban’ on the mythical party mode in Belgium – says, however, that the gap with the reigning world champion at Spa must be “noticeably smaller”. Red Bull Racing has a new update ready, for both the cars of Verstappen and Albon. “That should deliver noticeable progress in terms of the chassis,” he said Car, motor and sport. The Grand Prix of Belgium is scheduled for Sunday, August 30.
