Red Bull F1 team boss Christian Horner says Logan Sargent’s potential F1 promotion would be “great news” for the sport.
Williams Racing announced last week that it would sign Logan Sargent as a runner-up driver for 2023 if he manages to get an F1 super license after next month’s F2 final in Abu Dhabi.
Logan Sargent is the first American driver to race in F1 since Alexander Rossi, who made several appearances for Manor Marcia in 2015.
The popularity of F1 in the United States is currently skyrocketing, with three races scheduled for 2022.
Red Bull itself wanted to add an American driver to its F1 pool, chasing IndyCar star Colton Herta as Scuderia AlphaTauri driver for 2023.
That search was hampered by the FIA’s failure to issue an F1 super license, but Christian Horner is still happy to have an American driver in F1.
“I think it’s great news,” said Christian Horner.
“Congratulations to Joest and the Williams team for achieving this. Obviously there is still the issue of super licensing. I think that’s probably another topic we need to look at.”

Red Bull is currently enrolling American Jack Crawford in its junior program. 17-year-old Crawford has just finished his second season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship.
