Record increase. For the first time, the Czechia has over 500 new cases of coronavirus per day

More than 300 new patients with covid-19 per day have been detected by laboratories eight times so far since the beginning of March, four times in August. The last time was Wednesday.

The situation is not so serious

However, according to government officials and government epidemiologists, the current situation is different from the first wave of the epidemic in the spring, pointing to the current smaller numbers of hospitalizers with coronavirus and the low number of deaths.

In hospitals, 108 people are currently being treated with covid-19, 22 of whom need intensive care. Similar figures are reported by the Ministry of Health in the last four weeks, at the turn of March and April the data on hospitalizations were fourfold. There were three more deaths with coronavirus on Wednesday, an increase of 13 deaths since the beginning of the week.

In the vast majority a mild course

According to the then figures of the Ministry of Health, there were currently more than 5,000 sick patients at the beginning of August. However, the revised data show that the current 5078 patients are currently the most ill. In the vast majority of those infected, the course of the disease is mild.

The most infected in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants is newly in the Kolín region, about 40. It is followed by Uherskohradišťsko with 37 and the district of Plzeň-sever with 35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last week. Over 30, this figure is still in Prague, without new cases in the last seven days there is currently only Jesenicko.

Confusion around the measure

The Czechia is now preparing for the return of children and students to schools in September, which, according to epidemiologists, could worsen the situation with covid-19 in the Czech Republic. The Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES) first announced on Wednesday stricter rules for wearing veils from September, on Thursday he relaxed them after talks with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES). In this context, representatives of the parliamentary opposition express doubts that the rules are decided by experts, as the prime minister claims.

From September, according to the latest version of the rules, covering the nose and mouth in the Czech Republic will be mandatory in public transport, at offices, in health and social care facilities and in the October regional and senate elections. Unlike Wednesday’s announcement, people will not have to wear veils in schools, shops, restaurants and customer services such as hairdressers and pedicures. Babiš does not expect the principles to change again by the end of the holidays.
