Record holder Holuša ended his career due to a sore heel and trains runners in Dukla

“I have been bothered by a sore heel for a long time. I started training in October, but it started again and I was not able to train in two phases. The pain was that I trained for three days and then I had to have two days off,” Holuša told MfDNES. “The fact that young boys were interested in working with me also contributed to my decision to quit.”

In order to continue racing, he would have to have an operation, which he did not want. “I have had a spur there for a long time, which irritates and inflames running. No therapy works. The only option is to go under the pole, have it cut and cleaned. But I would be out of athletics for at least a year and who will know how regeneration would turn out,” said Holuša. “After all, I’m going to be thirty-four this month, and age won’t stop you. It doesn’t bother me in everyday life, so I don’t want surgery. It’s no longer worth me to extend my career by a year or two,” he said.

Ten years ago, he won the 800-meter silver medal at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, and four years later he was second in the 15th in Portland. In 2015, he triumphed in the 1500 meters race at the European Indoor Championships in Prague. His Czech record in the open air from 2018 is 3: 32.49 minutes.
