Record heat in California again this weekend. And that in September

The heat poses a risk to public health in several ways, writes The Washington Post. Americans who don’t have air conditioning at home may choose to go to cooling centers in some cities. Those are chilled public spaces to shelter from the heat. But now that the coronavirus is spreading, people may choose to stay at home, at the risk of overheating.

Many Americans have planned to go out this weekend. Monday is Labor Day, which gives them a long weekend off. Normally ideal for enjoying nature, but due to the extreme weather it is not recommended by meteorologists.

In California, a state of emergency has been declared by the governor. This gives power plants the opportunity to temporarily exceed their limits, so that there is no power shortage. Citizens are called upon to use electricity sparingly so as not to overload the electricity grid.

Due to blaring air conditioners, the demand for electricity is much higher than normal. That caused authorities to divide the state in August sometimes closed of electricity.
