Recognized SkillsLatvia 2021 best young professionals in retail, hospitality and restaurant service – Education, webinars

The best young professionals of the national professional mastery competition SkillsLatvia 2021 in the skills competitions “Retail”, “Guest reception” and “Restaurant service” have been recognized. On May 24 and 28, the SkillsLatvia 2021 skills competition “Retail” took place remotely and in person at the premises of the State Education Development Agency (VIAA), from May 26 to 27 young people competed in the competition “Reception of guests” both remotely and in person. An online skills competition “Restaurant Service” took place from May to May 28.

Krista Macola, a new future specialist of PIKC Riga State Technical School, has been recognized as the best seller in the skills competition “Retail”. The second place in the competition was won by Aivita Rulle, a student of PIKC Liepāja State Technical School, while the third place was won by Elis Elizabete Znotiņa, a new professional of VSIA Riga Tourism and Creative Industry Technical School. “My school is participating in the competition for the first time, so I wanted to experience this unknown experience. I am the person who can prepare even better at home than at school because I like to work individually. From the competition I have gained the courage to do things and dare to give in to challenges, even if there is a lot of excitement, ”admits the second place winner Aivita Rulle.

Tomas Lakotko, a student of Jelgava Technical School, took the first place in the skills reception “Guest Reception”, Alita Šļunceva, a future professional of Ventspils Technical School, won the second place, leaving Rainer Rozenfeld, a student of Kuldīga Technology and Tourism Technical School, in third place. Second place winner Alita Šļunceva says: “May was a tense month – I had to take exams, prepare and participate in a competition that was not easy, so now I feel relieved. In a contest, many tend to worry about problem situations when guests make complaints. In such moments, I try to be calm myself, to leave positive impressions to the guest, which does not always come together, but we cannot forget that if you start to worry, then the one who comes for help is also worried. ”

Margarita Platace, Chair of the Admissions Jury, observed: “The contestants were very attached to what the teacher was teaching, they could feel that the students were trying to remember what they were told to do. It seems to me that students were afraid of a creative approach, but it is constantly needed in hotels. There are no longer any wrong answers to do in such a situation, the main thing is to look for several solutions. Young people, answer the guests as you would like them to answer you and walk out of that frame. ”

The best results in setting the table and serving guests in the competition “Restaurant Service” were demonstrated by the first place winner Stanislavs Šavļuks from VSIA Riga Tourism and Creative Industry Technical School. The second place was taken by Ventspils Technical School student Kārlis Blūmentāls, but the third place was won by the new future professional of Smiltene Technical School Daniels Harijs Ārgalis. Contestants demonstrated their skills online, each in their own educational institution, filming the process so that experts could see any of the contestant’s actions.

The skill competition “Retail” with the goods, board games and balance boards necessary for the competition task was provided by SIA “Brain Games” and SIA “Balansa dēlis”.
