People who have received their first corona jab in another EU country and their second jab in the Netherlands cannot currently get a green tick in the CoronaCheck app, says the umbrella organization of GGDs when asked. The cause of the problem is of a technical nature, and ‘a solution is being worked on’.
‘The vaccination data of the jab from abroad are not yet technically processed properly,’ said a spokeswoman for GGD GHOR Nederland. The Ministry of Health is also aware of the defect. “The fact that after the second injection in the Netherlands the entire vaccination procedure is closed is not yet clear in the app,” explains a spokeswoman. The problem does not arise for people who received their first injection in a country outside the EU.
Low-threshold procedure
People who live in the Netherlands or have Dutch nationality and who received their first shot outside the Netherlands can indicate this when making the appointment for the second shot in the Netherlands, so that the vaccination is actually registered as the second shot. According to the Ministry of Health, no vaccination certificate from the other country is required for this. ‘We want to keep the procedure as accessible as possible. Besides, we’re assuming you don’t benefit from lying about it.’
Foreign jabs
It is unclear how many people may have been affected by the problem. The ministry receives ‘occasionally questions’ about foreign injections. The Dutch Koen Woldringh lives in Madrid. ‘I had my first vaccination in Spain. Now that I’m visiting my family in the Netherlands for a summer, I want to do it as safely as possible.’ That is why he had his second jab fixed during his visit to the Netherlands. ‘But due to the problems in the app, I can’t get a corona passport. In fact, the piece of paper I got from the GGD says emphatically: ‘no proof of vaccination’. So I don’t have to arrive in Spain with this.’ Woldringh is currently required to continue to be tested for all trips and occasions while fully vaccinated.
‘Be lenient with vaccination certificates’
Stichting Nederlanders Buiten Nederland, which represents the interests of Dutch people living abroad, calls the problem ‘very annoying’. According to the secretary of the Twan Laan foundation, it can affect people who live abroad, but also holidaymakers, for example. ‘Think of retirees who have a holiday home on the Mediterranean Sea.’ He calls on people to be lenient with the vaccination certificates of these people. ‘If someone can prove on paper that he or she has been vaccinated, that should also be sufficient.’
