Recap: IFK Göteborg vs. Halmstads BK: Match Analysis and Player Reactions

IFK Göteborg and Jens Askou made only one change in the starting eleven since the 1-1 match against Elfsborg. Thomas Santos was moved down as right back and Gustaf Norlin came in as winger, while Sebastian Hausner started on the bench. It was pleasing for the home team that Sebastian Ohlsson was back in the match squad after his foot injury. Visiting Halmstad fielded the same eleven as in the 2-2 meeting with IFK Värnamo last round.

Blåvitt initially had a certain upper hand and also came to the match’s first hot goal chance when Thomas Santos put in a cross against Oscar Wendt. The 37-year-old had the opportunity to shoot himself, but chose to pass on and the situation ended in the sand.

Otherwise, it was an uneventful half that took place at Gamla Ullevi, although the home team won the same on points.

Just before the half-time break, Arbnor Mucolli had the chance from close range, but the ball was covered by HBK defenders and the first half ended 0-0.

– We don’t get balls into the box. The last pass it’s like we’re cowards and they get a little more possession, so we need to put more balls in the box, said Blåvitt’s Marcus Berg to Discovery+.

For the second half, IFK Göteborg replaced Elias Hagen in the game – and Abundance Salaou left.

In the 52nd minute of the match, Gustaf Norlin had a chance after a conversion, but fired just outside Malkolm Nilsson Säfqvist’s first post.

Ten minutes later, Halmstad’s Naeem Mohammed got on a magnificent strike outside the penalty area and came close to netting for the third game in a row. Then Pontus Dahlberg countered with an at least as good save.

In the 68th minute, Sebastian Ohlsson entered the game for the home team after being absent since May 21.

In the 80th minute, Ohlsson was centimeters away from saving Blåvitt. Nilsson Säfqvist was out on a swing, which left the HBK goal open for a while. Sebastian Ohlsson hit the bar.

None of the teams ever came closer than that. The match ended 0-0.

Sebastian Ohlsson on the situation in the table:

– It is clear that it has been a long time since we won, we need to get three points. We have to do better and it’s too bad. We do everything for each other out there, but we have to have a little better quality, he tells Discovery+.

Next IFK Gothenburg will be visited by Kalmar FF. For Halmstads BK, the Hallands derby awaits at home against Varbergs Bois.

At the press conference after the match, Jens Askou was far from satisfied with his team’s performance:

– I don’t know if we deserved three points. It’s a match with a lot of mispasses and bad decisions from us. We give Halmstad the opportunity to defend well and get too few good chances. It is frustrating. I am very disappointed with our technical performance, because it was far from acceptable.

Startelvor:

IFK Gothenburg: Dahlberg – Santos, Svensson, Bångsbo, Wendt – Kåhed, Carlén, Salaou – Norlin, Berg, Mucolli.

Halmstads BK: Nilsson-Säfqvist – Ofusu-Ayeh, Johansson, Baffo, Olsson – Karlsson, Svedberg, Al-Ammari, Mohammed – Ahlstrand, Granath.
