Reanimations full to 50%, already exceeded the quota of 300 hospitalized

TURIN. There Higher pressure remains on low and medium intensity wards, but ICUs are filling up quickly as well. Yesterday they broke through the ceiling of 300 admissions, equal to almost 50 percent of the maximum capacity of 614 places to be allocated to Covid patients provided for by the regional emergency plan.

A limit that, the Region informs, could be further raised by 100 units when the breathing helmets promised by the national commissioner Arcuri are active. C.with the hospitals running out of steam – total hospitalizations have risen to 4,671 – every day the race to find beds and health personnel starts again.

Yesterday morning the President of the Region Alberto Cirio together with the councilor for Health Luigi Icardi once again met the heads of the accredited private structures to request the availability of new departments. Meanwhile, the preparatory work for the birth of the field hospital at Valentino is proceeding: 55 tents in which 458 low-intensity care seats will be set up inside the pavilion that hosted Christmas in the carousel. The interventions in progress in these hours concern the sewer network and the water system: it is planned to make the structure fully operational around 20 November. The real challenge, which recurs in all health centers in the area, will however be finding the necessary staff. The president of the health commission in the regional council, the Northern League player Alessandro Stecco, has launched an international appeal to NGOs to divert doctors and nurses from their hospitals abroad to Piedmont. «The beds and especially the staff are running out. We need everyone’s help ”, is the cry for help from the councilor, who is also a university professor and doctor at the Novara hospital. “Despite the tenders and recruitments already occurred in phase One – he underlines – the system is not able to cope with such an increase in hospitalizations”. Also because among health professionals, already exhausted by the first wave, cases of positivity to the virus are multiplying.

And the repercussions are getting heavier every day even for all non-Covid patients who need health care. The consequences of the closure, for over a week now, of the emergency room of the Martini hospital, which serves 78,000 people a year, more than 200 a day, are particularly worrying. In a question to the president of the junta, the councilor Pd Daniele Valle asked “if and how the redistribution of those patients to other aids was evaluated and how the staff who worked in the emergency room will be used».
