Realme 6 and 6 Pro in the test: strong competition for Xiaomi

The mid-range smartphone market has become increasingly attractive over the past two years thanks to falling prices and strong hardware. The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi belongs with its Redmi Note series to the pioneers in inexpensive but well-equipped devices – the company recently launched the Redmi 9 series. With Realme, Xiaomi has a competitor from its own country, which it is also attracting to Europe with its product range.

Like Oneplus, Oppo and Vivo, Realme belongs to BBK Electronics, one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world. In Germany these have recently been among others Realme 6 and the Realme 6 Pro to have. We took a close look at the two devices and found that buyers were offered a lot for the price asked for.

  • In the first part of the test, we take a closer look at Realme 6. From 210 euros there is a smart phone with a good SoC, a smoothly running display and a quad camera – on paper, the Realme 6 is better equipped in some areas than the Redmi Note 9.
  • In the second part of the test, we consider the slightly better-equipped Realme 6 Pro, which is already available for 309 euros. We are also interested in the comparison to the Redmi Note 9 Pro: The Realme smartphone offers better hardware in many respects.

At first glance, the Realme 6 and 6 Pro look very similar except for the color. It’s no wonder, since the models belong to the same smartphone series. The design is straightforward, the only eye-catcher is the pattern on the back glass. With Realme 6, the white back of our test device shimmers depending on the light, as if we had made a kink in the material in the middle of the lower edge. Our test device of the Realme 6 Pro, on the other hand, has a blue-black back, which shows a flash pattern when the light hits.

The build quality is good, especially with the Pro model. The Realme 6 has a silver frame made of plastic, which can be seen in the corners on closer inspection. This does not have to be a disadvantage; a frame made of plastic is even advantageous in terms of reception quality. The Realme 6 does not appear structurally weaker compared to the Pro model or other smartphones.

The Realme 6 comes with a Mediatek SoC and a 6.5-inch display.
