Walking through rooms filled with immersive installations, such as an installation made up of 44,000 plastic bags – the amount used in New York State every minute before the plastic bag ban – visitors wear a AR headset that brings facilities to life and teaches environmental facts.
Vettori said the Manhattan exhibit is meant to be viewed in a fun way.
“The intention is to get people to come and… to get a message across,” Vettori said. “I really think this technique is super fun and will work for everyone.”
Arcadia Earth’s HoloLens tour was developed with metaverse platform company Enklu, and features ecosystems such as forests and the open ocean, as well as environmental issues such as single-use plastic waste and overfishing .
“I have children and I feel the responsibility to do something for their future, said Vettori. “Today, if we don’t do something, the future will be difficult. And I want to make sure that I’m one of those people who is committed to doing everything we can.”
Proceeds from tickets sold will be used to plant mangrove trees, which store climate-warming carbon better than most other trees.
