(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Shin Yuri = In the middle of the night on Christmas Eve, the 24th, the North American Command captured Santa Claus circling the night sky of Seoul in a sleigh pulled by Rudolph.

According to the Santa Claus location tracking website tracked by the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), Santa departed from the North Pole and traveled around the night sky around the world before arriving in the Seoul sky around 11:25 pm on the 24th.

Santa came riding a sleigh pulled by Rudolph, ringing jingle bells, and first took a circle above Namsan Tower.

NORAD said, “Santa appeared amidst the beautiful lights of Seoul,” and “Namsan Tower offers a breathtaking view, which Santa undoubtedly enjoyed.”

Santa also took pictures of famous landmarks in Seoul, believed to be Lotte World Tower and Gyeongbokgung Palace, and flew over the Korean Peninsula, scattering gifts to children from the sky.

Previously, Santa traveled to New Zealand and Australia and visited the Korean Peninsula. He then went to Shanghai, China, then Dubai and Greece, and is currently flying in the skies of Spain and Berlin, Germany.

In particular, Santa went to space this year and hovered around the International Space Station (ISS), where astronauts are staying, according to NORAD.

NORAD opened its website (www.noradsanta.org) at 6 p.m. on the 24th, Korean time, and began tracking Santa Claus’s location using radar, sensors, and aircraft from the moment he departed from the North Pole.

Santa’s location was broadcast in real time on the website, attracting the attention of children around the world.

NORAD, which has been conducting a mission to track Santa for 68 years, determined Santa’s location again this year by tracking the red light coming from the nose of Rudolph the reindeer, who pulls Santa’s sleigh.

Last year, Santa entered Korean airspace at 11:20 p.m. on the 24th, passing through Seoul at 11:27 p.m. following Jeju Island and Busan, stopping in Pyongyang before leaving for China.

Meanwhile, the number of gifts that Santa has distributed as of today has exceeded 3.9 billion.

NORAD, jointly operated by the United States and Canada, has been carrying on the ‘tradition’ of providing Santa’s virtual location for 68 years.

In 1955, a department store posted an advertisement in a newspaper containing a phone number to call Santa, but the incident began when the number leading to the U.S. Homeland Air Defense Command, one of the predecessors of NORAD, was printed incorrectly.

The tracking site shows Santa flying over the global map in real time in a sleigh pulled by deer. Santa visits major cities in each country one by one according to the time difference on Christmas Eve.
