Readers wanted for elementary schools in the district of Würzburg

After the school break due to the Corona crisis and after the holidays, the reading helpers from the Würzburg Mentor Association will start their individual reading support again.

According to a press release, volunteer mentors go to a school once a week and spend a lesson on a pupil, read with the child and strengthen their language skills.

The Leselernhelfer project has continued to develop in the Adalbert-Stifter primary school since it started last year. Reading assistants work at four primary schools in Würzburg and the primary school in Kürnach. Other schools are showing great interest because the need for support in learning to read is high.

Everyone involved – the schools, the sponsored reading children and the mentors – would like to continue the project in order to promote reading and language skills. Special educational knowledge is not required from reading assistants. A reading mentor can become a person who enjoys reading and enjoying working with children, who can listen well and who is happy to take responsibility for the positive development of a young person.
