Re-release Doom 64 for PC and consoles contains new chapter – Gaming – News

The re-release of Doom 64 contains a completely new chapter. Developer Nightdive announces this in an interview. The re-release uses the KEX engine, which was previously used for an unofficial PC port.

The new chapter continues after the original Doom 64 campaign, say the developers to USGamer. After players defeat Mother Demon, they must take on the sister of that boss. It is not known how long the extra chapter will last.

The port of Doom 64 is commissioned by Bethesda by Nightdive. Samuel Villarreal is the one there lead engine developer and he made the KEX engine. He previously used this for the unofficial PC port Doom 64 EX. The engine was already used by Nightdive for porting other classics such as Turok, Forsaken and Blood. The engine offers support for high frame rates, among other things.

The new version of Doom 64 was announced simultaneously with Doom Eternal and will also be released simultaneously. The game originally appeared for the Nintendo 64 in 1997 and is a sequel to Doom II. The re-release of Doom 64 will be available separately for PCs, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Playstation 4 from 20 March. The classic is included free of charge in the pre-order from Doom Eternal.
