R’Bonney Gabriel crowned Miss Universe 2023

Ms. Gabriel closed her eyes as she shook hands with Venezuelan representative Amanda Dudamel, her runner-up, when her name was revealed as the winner. The young woman beamed on the stage after this announcement.

The music sounded and she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and the traditional scarf. The winner was crowned with a tiara on stage at the 71st Miss Universe Pageant held in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The third runner-up was Miss Dominican Republic, Andreina Martinez.

At the final stage of the competition for the three finalists, R’Bonney Gabriel was asked how she would demonstrate that Miss Universe is “an empowering and progressive organization” if she were to win.

“I would use [ce titre] to be a leader of transformation,” she replied, talking about her work using recycled materials in her fashion design and teaching sewing to victims of human trafficking and domestic violence.

“It’s so important to invest in others, to invest in your community, and to use your unique gifts to make a difference,” Ms. Gabriel continued.
