Rayados vs. Santos Laguna: Germán Berterame scores twice in 4-1 victory – highlights and analysis

Germán Berterame opened the account in the 22nd minute after a header from Stefan Medina and after at least two dangerous arrivals by those led by Fernando ‘Tano’ Ortiz.

Luis Romo was the first to give the warning with a header that goalkeeper Freddy Pérez deflected with an exceptional flight two minutes into the game.

Then, Brando Vázquez, one of the reinforcements of the Monterrey team for this semester for both the Liga MX and the Concacaf Champions Cup, sent the ball into the nets, but he did so in a clearly advanced position.

Carlos Mejía, in the 26th minute, finished with a shot but Andrada, in rhythm, deflected the ball to avoid a dead tie, although three minutes later Mejía himself headed and chopped a cross from the right by Stheven Robles for the 1- 1.

Rayados knew that the match was not going to be easy, even Brando Vázquez missed a clear goal which, luckily for him, was scored in an advanced position.

With just four minutes of play left in the second half, Luis Romo’s right-footed shot was barely deflected by goalkeeper Freddy Pérez hitting the crossbar to lead to a corner kick.

At 52′, Cortizo served to Berterame and he passed to Ponchito to make it 2-1 after a bad start by Freddy Pérez and the agony of the locals began there.

José Corena could not equalize on two occasions, he won the ball after an error by Luis Romo, first with a shot at grass level and against the post and then with the goal open and with Romo clearing a header over the goal line to remove his thorn, what a heart moment in the game!

The third goal came after a corner kick from the right that Jesús Gallardo finished with his head combed and with his back to the goal to beat the goalkeeper’s first post at minute 72. In the final stretch of the match, at 85′, Gallardo himself touched with the door open for Rodrigo Aguirre to score the 1-4 that seems definitive in the series.

The second leg will be next Wednesday, February 15 at the Gigante de Acero so that Rayados can try to end a series practically decided in their favor.
