Rare Pink Albino Baby Elephant Discovered in Kruger National Park, South Africa

An unusual baby elephant was discovered in the Kruger National Park (South Africa). His skin is not gray, as is usually the case, but pink.

Wildlife experts have determined that the baby elephant was born albino. In the case of this genetic mutation, individuals have a total or partial absence of melanin, the pigment responsible for coloring the skin and hair (fur), transmits gismeteo.ro

Albinism is much less common in African than in Asian elephants. According to experts, one in 10,000 babies is born with this anomaly.
It is difficult for bee animals to survive in the wild. The lack of natural coloring prevents them from hiding from predators. In addition, the African sun is very dangerous for non-pigmented skin.

In some cases, an albino chick is kicked out of the herd. However, the baby elephant in Kruger Park was surrounded by congeners, according to Live Science.

“The rest of the herd seemed to show a lot of care and patience with this chick,” the naturalists noted
