Rare Blue Moon Supermoon to Shine Brightly Tomorrow, August 31st

Tomorrow, Thursday, August 31, the globe will witness a unique astronomical phenomenon that will not be repeated until the year 2032 blue Moon Supermoon, a term used to refer to an additional full moon, when the inhabitants of Earth witness two full moons in one month.

Dr. Ashraf Tadros, professor of astronomy at the National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research, said that the full moon of the month of Safar for the current Hijri year, the “blue moon”, will be completed at 3:37 am next Thursday morning, and it will rise immediately after sunset on this day, and its brightness will reach 100%, and it will remain in the sky. All night until sunset and sunrise the next morning.

Dr. Ashraf Tadros added that this full moon is the third giant moon among the four giant moons of this year that come successively until next September, when the moon is in the perihelion region in its orbit around the Earth, which is the region relatively close to the Earth, so the moon appears a little larger and brighter than usual. .

He explained that the moon appears to us as if it was a full moon in the period from August 30 to September 1, and this is because the naked eye cannot easily distinguish the slight decrease in the roundness of the moon disk.

The astronomy professor explained that the blue moon is the second full moon in one Gregorian month, and this happens on average every two or three years, so if the blue moon is defined as two full full moons in one Gregorian month, then there are about three blue moons approximately every ten years, adding that There is another definition of the blue moon, which is more common, and is defined as the third full moon in a season or season of the year with four full moons, and this occurs approximately every two years and eight months, and according to this definition there are 2 blue moons approximately every 10 years.

And he continued: It is known that there is only one full moon and only one full moon almost every Gregorian month, and therefore when the full moon comes twice in the Gregorian month, the second full moon is called the blue moon, which applies to the current month of August, as the full moon came on the first of August, and the day of August 31″.

And the time of the full moon is the best time to see the terrain, volcanic craters and meteorites on the surface of the moon using binoculars and small telescopes, advising amateur astronomers wishing to monitor and follow these astronomical phenomena by watching them in the coasts, fields, deserts, prairies and mountains.
