Rapper Def Rhymz is waiting for a donor heart. The 53-year-old artist now has a motor in his heart that ensures blood circulation in his body.
Rhymz, known for hits like Doekoe in Shake, has undergone surgery for his heart three times in the past four years. “I have that engine in my heart as a bridge until the moment I receive a donor heart,” he says in the podcast RealTalks by FunX DJ Fernando Halman. “My left heart valve does very little.”
The rapper, whose real name is Dennis Bouman, found out about the condition when he was in court four years ago for a speeding violation: “I only hear you coughing, the judge said. I think you should go to the hospital. My breathing was already very bad and I retained a lot of fluid, I became fat.” The artist is being treated at the UMC Utrecht.
The rapper says he accepts the situation. “It is what it is, it goes the way it goes. But I’m not pathetic.”
